We Are the World Sino-UK Educational Exchange Week hosted by Wuhou District, Chengdu celebrated the achievements of exchanges and cooperation between Wuhou and UK mainly through British Council’s Connecting Classrooms programme.

"Connect students worldwide with Connecting Classrooms." Mr Fu Yonglin, Vice Mayor of Chengdu, China opened the event by a line with our brand. 

Together We Make Our Dream Come True

Together We Make Our Dream Come True A series of sports festivals were launched across China to celebrate the 100-Day-To-Go to the London Olympics. What are so special about these events? They were all organized by young people, who are involved in clubs called “Dreams and Teams”.

A big slogan “We Make the Future Leadership, We Are Global Citizens” was hung on the wall of the Dreams and Teams Young Leader Club Trophy Room of Beijing No. 3 School for the Deaf.

School Leadership Training, making you from Good to Great A group of school heads from Southwest China stepped into the leadership training in China and UK, to drive themselves from being good to great.  British Council China has worked with Chinese education authorities on the School Leadership Programme through high-profile workshops, forums and both China-based and UK-based training, to improve school head’s leadership skills in an international environment.

British Council Taipei receives MoE award

British Council Taipei receives MoE award 5 January 2012 saw the Ministry of Education in Taiwan hold an international education conference at National Taiwan Normal University, attended by over 300 principals and teachers from primary and secondary schools across Taiwan. The schools involved presented their 2010-11 international education projects, with the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms project mentioned over and over again as being a key part of their programme of internationalisation. It’s not surprising, then, that the conference also saw the British Council Taipei presented with a unique award by the MoE for its outstanding contribution to internationalising school education during 2010-11.

Pekan – Bogor International Smart Partnership

Pekan – Bogor International Smart Partnership The student exchange program between Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Pekan, Pahang, Malaysia and Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Bogor, Indonesia was carried out from 29th February 2012 until 3rd February 2012.  The delegate from SMP Negeri 1 Bogor with 20 students and 4 teachers were given a warm welcome by students and teachers of SMK Seri Pekan with a grand welcoming ceremony on Monday, 30th February 2012. 

3 Nation Video Conference

3 Nation Video Conference The video conference session between SEK MEN KEB SERI PEKAN, PAHANG, MALAYSIA - PHICHAI RATTANAKHAN SCHOOL, RANONG, THAILAND - SEK MEN PERTAMA NEGERI 1 BOGOR, INDONESIA was conducted on the 9th of November 2011.  SKYPE was used as the video conferencing tool.  This video conference activity was conducted between three schools and three countries.  It was the first experience for all the three schools to conduct a group video conference.

Dreams and Teams, a different learning journey for school teachers

Dreams and Teams, a different learning journey for school teachers More than 140 Chinese teachers from 50 schools participated in Dreams and Teams tutor courses in five cities in China and Hong Kong in December 2011. These courses equipped them to develop young people’s leadership skills and cross-cultural understanding through sports. The training also provided them with a very different learning experience from their daily teaching.

Mapping the Future Together LawrenceHoman Public School, Lucknow, (India) and South Wilts Grammar School, England, (UK), both situated in rural areas have installed a Weather Station at both their school to study Weather Patterns and make regular forecasts available to the farmers and the local community.

Promoting Educational Leadership in Mexico

promoting educational leadership As part of the Connecting Classrooms / Schools Online project, the British Council organized the International Seminar on Leadership in Compulsory Education in Mexico. Mexican and British experts on education shared their experience and knowledge to more than 1,000 teachers and educational authorities, promoting the establishment of new international work links among British and Mexican schools. 

A recipe for friendship

A recipe for friendship Nothing can win the heart of a Pakistani like food can; maybe that is the reason behind British Council Schools Online’s successful project ‘Eating is Believing’. A collaboration between the Army Public School Kharian Pakistan and SMPN Ciamis West Java Indonesia, the project revolved around making two dishes Chana Chaat & Milk Shake (Pakistan) and Kelepon & Serabi (Indonesia). A group of 5 teachers and 25 students of Class III & IV of Army Public School Kharian, Pakistan participated in the project and completed it.

Underprivileged children coming closer to the community

The ‘Social Action Project’ involved 227 schools from all around Bangladesh, including 20 schools from the Underprivileged Children’s Educational Programmes (UCEP). UCEP is a beacon for the underprivileged working children of Bangladesh.

Grand Banyan Project ...turned into reality through a recycling project on Schools Online

All it takes to save the planet is a cracker of an idea, and of course, its successful manifestation. The Grand Banyan Project, an initiative of the British Council India in collaboration with the NGO I Love My Mother Earth (ILMME)foundation saw two of its ideas swiftly materialise into concrete results. The first initiative, ‘A Million Notebooks Challenge’ had over 300 participating schools from all over India contribute hundreds of kilos of paper waste during the period of 16th August to 30th November. The notebooks made from these recycled papers will benefit a substantial number of less advantaged children, thus fuelling the engine of education in the country.

Say ‘NO’ to Drugs – A Walk to Remember A Seminar followed by an awareness walk was organised by Green Hood Public School Kohat, Pakistan on 10 December 2011 where hundreds of students and teachers from different schools, religious scholars and other respected local community members were invited.

Let’s Celebrate our Festivals

Lets Celebrate our Festivals The Schools Online Project, Fiesta, was the first school partnership project done by the students of Garrison Academy Kharian Pakistan for which they collaborated with Lyceum-Uralsk Kazakhstan. 25 Students of Class VII & VIII participated in the project, which served as a golden opportunity for students to learn about the culture and traditions surrounding festivals in other countries. Students from Pakistan spoke about the ‘Eid’ Festival while those from Kazakhstan shared ‘Nauryz’ traditions.
