These projects (provided by the British Council Connecting Classrooms programme) are free for you to download and adapt or use straight away. Note that 'mixed ages' means you can use this template with an older or younger class than yours. Registered schools have the opportunity to carry out these projects in one of our project spaces.

From our window ( 7-11 or mixed ages) The view from our window is a gentle way to explore similarities and differences between schools. It is a good introductory activity. Different media can turn this into a very interesting project and you can take part any time.

Fiesta ( 7-11 or mixed ages)

Fiesta ( 7-11 or mixed ages) Choose two dates during the year to exchange festivals to help each other celebrate an unfamiliar festival. For example Pancake Day and Ramadan are both about fasting - and a special day on which you can have a feast.

A day in the life (7-11 or mixed ages)

A day in the life (7-11 or mixed ages) Students produce and present a PowerPoint presentation, scrapbook, cartoon or video montage of a typical day in the life of one or more of the students. We ALWAYS have space on this project - just ask us!

Farming, food production and Fairtrade (11-14 or mixed ages)

Farming, food production and fair trade (11-14 or mixed ages) The aim is to compare what foods are available in your own and your partner school’s country. Students identify which countries are consumers.

Culture in a box (7-11 or mixed ages)

Culture in a box (7-11 or mixed ages) Schools will exchange by parcel post the ‘culture boxes’ containing ten items. By choosing the items to put in, they will learn about ‘how others see us’. By explaining their choices they will try to tell their partner school ‘how we see ourselves’.

Shared learning in English literature (7-11, 11+)

Shared learning in English literature (7-11, 11+) A very useful template - partner teachers agree on a resource to study together - a poem, a story book, a novel, a Shakespeare play etc. It is curriculum-linked, and may be done at slightly different times in each school. An ideal and very flexible project.

Travel guides (7-11 or mixed ages)

Travel guides (7-11 or mixed ages) Help each other to discover new places, cultures and people by writing a travel guide to your partner school's town, or capital city. Then exchange what you have found out and relate it to tourism and 'image' and the real identity of places and cultures.

Rivers (7-11 or mixed ages) Using photos, drawings and maps, the students represent the rivers in their country – a local river and the most famous river!

Dos and dont's (11-16 or mixed ages)

Dos and Don'ts (11-16 or mixed ages) Research into the law, discussion of the customs or moral codes, within your own school, or in your home or country. Setting questions for your partner schools. Joint discussion of the findings and global comparisons within and across cultures.

Eating is believing (all ages; good for mixed ages)

Eating is Believing (all ages; good for mixed ages) This project works well with students worldwide as everyone likes good food! It allows students to share views and question opinions about food in a global context over two or more exchanges, ending with a recipe and some cooking.
