Schools sometimes go 'off timetable' for a day or a week to focus on international work. You could look at a global theme such as water or fair trade, or on a particular language, country or continent. This is suitable for the International School Award accreditation, as long as the work is all curriculum-based.

• A popular format is for each class to represent a country and children from other classes visit the classrooms, showing passports and ‘changing money’.
• Each year group/class chooses a country but the main focus is through one curriculum area chosen by the class teacher – art, music, history or geography.
• Countries are chosen to reflect the diversity of the local community, and through local links people are invited to dance, cook, tell stories, teach phrases and play music etc.

Lead up to your event by engaging the interest of parents, local groups and the press. Put up posters and invite sponsorship from local businesses. You'll find out so much about international partnerships in your area.
