Welcome to the Department of Recreation, Sport and Tourism–part of the College of Applied Health Sciences. Formerly known as the Department of Leisure Studies, we were one of the first to offer a degree in park and recreation. We have a long and distinguished history of outstanding contributions to parks, recreation, sport, and tourism planning and management. The Impact of Media on Tourism
Associate Professor Carla Santos investigates tourism and how communication and media shape the experience of both traveler and host. Her goal is to develop resources for creating and planning high-quality tourism programs and services that are culturally and socially sustainable and that recognize and balance the needs of tourists with those of the communities they visit.
