May 22, 2012: Susan Froshauer could easily use her expertise to launch a biotech company, conduct medical research, or help cutting-edge entrepreneurs find investors – and in fact, she’s already done all of those things. Froshauer120330b071
Now, she’s marshaling those experiences to benefit the University of Connecticut and the state as a whole as director of a program that links UConn’s expertise with industries that need its innovations.
Froshauer, a biotech entrepreneur and former Pfizer Inc. researcher and business development leader, joined UConn this year to lead its Tech-Knowledge Portal program at the Office of Economic Development. Her arrival comes as UConn’s role in building Connecticut’s economy and creating jobs is becoming more widely recognized, and as partnerships with existing and would-be businesses are taking many innovations from the lab to the marketplace. Mary Holz-Clause arrived in December as the University of Connecticut’s first vice president for economic development. With more than 30 years in the field of economic development, she most recently served as associate vice president for extension and outreach at Iowa State University, where she was responsible for advancing economic development opportunities with key partners of ISU on local, national, and international levels. May 2012: Site Selection names the Jackson Laboratory project among the top deals of 2011. Approved in late January 2012, the project will bring Maine-based Jackson Lab to establish a major research campus devoted to personalized medicine and system genomics at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. The total project budget is projected to be $1.1 billion, with Jackson providing $809 million and the state of Connecticut providing $209 million. Click here to read the full article.
