Login and Password Information

Notice for those registering through OCE in credit courses: To ensure the security of your identity, the University of Illinois encourages the use of multiple passwords for different university systems. Each student will only be issued one NetID.

For those first-time nondegree students enrolling in credit courses, OCE registration staff will process your registration information and supply you with a University Id Number (UIN). You will then be directed to claim your NetID and set your NetID password after your initial registration has been processed.

For students who have previously taken courses through OCE , you will have an existing UIN and NetID. If there are any changes to your NetID password the registration staff will contact you.

The campus currently requires passwords for different processes. These are described in detail below. This system is for the safety of your records. If you have questions about any part of the process please contact the office at 1-800-252-1360, ext. 3-3060 or locally at (217) 333-3060. We encourage you to use Password Vault or a similar service to store your passwords and NetID. Also, if you have any questions about NetID and /or Passwords, you may contact the CITES Help Desk at 1-800-252-1360, ext. 4-7000.

Important note: Your Login/NetID/Name for all of the below will be the same; however, each password may be different. For most systems you’ll have the option to change your password once you’re logged in for the first time. We recommend choosing passwords you are familiar with.

Your University of Illinois (UIUC) Bluestem NetID and Password are very important. Your UIUC NetID is, in a sense, your "master" ID. It allows you to set and change passwords for other services that contain sensitive personal information. You will receive these in a letter or electronically if you haven’t already.

    This ID is used
  • To activate your Enterprise Registration ID, unless you are a nondegree student. If you are a nondegree student, OCE instructs you on how to receive this information the first time you register for a credit course
  • To set up your CITES/Express UIUC Email Login/Password
  • To access the Library Gateway, the bookstore, the course evaluation system (EON) for online courses, and more

More information, including hints for choosing a password, can be found at http://www.cites.illinois.edu/passwords/ (see "NetID Password"). Keep in mind: if you are a nondegree student enrolling for the first time, OCE will tell you how to claim your NetID and Password.

The UI Enterprise Student Self- Service System is used by degree students to:

  • Register for courses; nondegree students direct their registration materials to the Office of Continuing Education
  • To pay bills
  • View final grades among other information
  • The password sent to nondegree students by OCE should be changed immediately upon receipt. Degree-seeking students are also instructed to change the password they receive upon admission to the degree program.

There are also other authentication points. Learning tools such as Elluminate, Moodle, Illinois Compass, etc. are required for some courses. Elluminate provides you with the secure logon information you need; you will be prompted for NetID and Password for the other learning tools as well. CITES/Active Director (AD) also requires a password, which can and should be different from your NetID password. It is used for accessing some course systems, Express email, and NetFiles (a web publishing tool and file storage service).

If you have any questions or problems with NetID/Password or electronic access to the campus resources, please contact CITES Help Desk at 1-800-252-1360, ext. 4-7000.If you have any questions or problems with Registration, please contact the Office of Continuing Education at 1-800-252-1360, ext. 3-3060.
