The non-refundable administrative fee is part of tuition. This fee covers a portion of the many direct costs related to providing instruction and administrative and academic support services. Off-campus students receive various forms of assistance, such as library support, toll-free phone numbers, general guidance, network IDs and passwords, and support in coordinating with other campus units. In addition, wide ranges of academic services are provided to the faculty and staff who teach our courses. Costs for supporting instruction and for developing and promoting new courses are also partially derived from tuition and fees. However, the administrative fee does not cover campus services such as insurance, transportation, etc.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Degree students

Although universities are not required to provide financial aid to students in distance education programs, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) administers financial aid programs to eligible applicants. Students registering in courses offered through the Online & Continuing Education must be admitted to a degree program and be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and three (3) credit hours during the summer semester.

University of Illinois financial aid may also cover semester based summer online courses. Please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for more information. Some scholarships, benefits or waivers will pay for these courses.

Nondegree students

Nondegree students are not eligible to receive University of Illinois financial aid for semester-based course sections. Contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at the University of Illinois for more information on Eligibility Requirements for Federal and State Aid. Note: If you are enrolled in a degree program at another University and are currently receiving financial aid or a scholarship, consult with your financial aid office.
