String Chamber Music
String Chamber Music The University of Alabama offers a large variety of chamber music for strings, ranging from two to eight players. Works such as Trios by Mozart, Dvorak and Smetana; Quartets by Beethoven, Brahms, and Bartok; the Mendelssohn Octet, and many other works have been performed by our students. We have also had many mixed groups with winds and strings, such as the Bartok Contrasts and Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat. At times, we combine faculty and students to present large chamber works in order to give the students a professional-level experience.
Huxford Symphony Orchestra
Huxford Symphony Orchestra The University Orchestra was renamed the Huxford Symphony Orchestra of the University of Alabama in 2000 as the result of a generous endowment donated by Ms. Camilla Huxford, a graduate of UA. A full orchestra of roughly 60 musicians, the ensemble plays a wide variety of music, including works by Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Richard Strauss, Mahler, Wagner, and many other masters. It also presents many performances of contemporary works.
