UVa Microsoft Agreements

How To Obtain Discounted Microsoft Software at UVa

The way you obtain your licensed Microsoft software depends upon who owns the computer on which you are installing it:

You can also use the Microsoft “Software Chooser” Wizard to aid you in learning how to obtain your discounted UVa Microsoft products.

For Computers Owned by UVa

Who What Microsoft Software What You Need to Do License Cost
  • State-funded employees and
  • Locally funded employees at Semester at Sea, UVIMCO, Miller Center, and SWVHEC
  • Microsoft Office (for PC or Mac)
  • the Windows OS
  • Client Access Licenses (CALs)
Request access to download the software covered under the Campus Agreement (NetBadge login required). No cost to you.
All other Microsoft software products Purchase a license and download the software, following the Ordering Instructions for software covered under the Select Agreement. Price varies; see price lists.
Locally funded employees at organizations not listed above All Microsoft software products Purchase a license and download the software, following the Ordering Instructions for software covered under the Select Agreement. Price varies; see price lists.

For Computers Owned by UVa Students

Eligibility: All degree-seeking UVa students (including BIS, but excluding certificate programs and SPCS).

How What You Need to Do Cost/Covered Titles Other Info

Purchase the media, which activates your license

  1. Go to Cavalier Computers in the UVa Bookstore.*
  2. Show your valid University ID and sign a form.
  • Microsoft Office (for PC or Mac): $15
  • The Windows operating system: $15

Once students graduate and become alumni, they become permanently licensed for products covered at time of graduation.

If students leave without graduating, all products obtained under this agreement must be removed.

* Note: Inventory is not always in stock at Cavalier Computers. Before you go, you may want to check with Cavalier staff at 434-924-4447 or cavcomp@virginia.edu to ensure they currently have a copy available of the software you need.

For Computers Owned by UVa Faculty & Staff for Work at Home

Eligibility: All state-funded UVa employees and locally funded employees at Semester at Sea, UVIMCO, Miller Center, and SWVHEC.

How What You Need to Do Cost/Covered Titles Other Info

Purchase the media, which activates your license

  1. Go to Cavalier Computers in the UVa Bookstore.*
  2. Show your valid University ID and sign a form.
  • Microsoft Office (for PC or Mac): $15
  • The Windows operating system: $15

Cavalier Computers does accept departmental PTAOs for this purchase.
