Lost Password Recovery Wizard
Answer the following questions by clicking the appropriate links to quickly determine how to go about retrieving or changing the password you use for NetBadge.
Start Here
Are you a student?
Current UVa Students
Are you a student through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS)?
Yes, through SCPS. In that case, go directly to the SCPS website to reset or obtain your permanent password.
No, I’m any other type of student. In that case: Did you begin taking classes at UVa for the first time beginning in Fall 2009 or later?
Future UVa Students
If you’re not yet a student, go to the Temporary Password Request page to get another Temporary password. (Note that the way you reset your password will be different later, once you become a current student who has gone through in-person identity verification .)
UVa Employees
If you’re not primarily a student, but a UVa employee, have you obtained a white PassPhrase card during in-person identity verification?
Tip: Read about identity verification if you aren’t sure whether you have done it or not.
Password Retrieval for Identity-Verified Individuals (the “New” System)
Do you have a password that will get you through NetBadge to at least one UVa service?
Not sure? Try logging into NetBadge to find out.
Yes, I’m still able to log in through NetBadge. In that case: Do you still have your white PassPhrase card?
No, I cannot log in through NetBadge.
The Final Step of the “New” System
If you can still log in through NetBadge and you still have your white PassPhrase card, you can retrieve your password easily:
Go to the website listed on your PassPhrase card ( http://whois.virginia.edu/idm ) and log in using your existing NetBadge password (for new students, this must be your Temporary password ).
(Re)set your personal security questions and answers.
After you do this, you will have a chance to (re)set your Permanent password, blue.unix, and Eservices passwords.
Password Retrieval for Non-Identity-Verified Individuals (the “Old” System)
You were given your password initially after you completed the Responsible Computing Quiz. Did you change that originally-assigned password?
(You were initially given the same password for your 3 major computing accounts.)
