ITS provides an enterprise-class File Storage Service for Institute researchers. This storage is hosted on a highly available server with redundant disk arrays. Data is backed up offsite nightly making this service ideal for hosting mission-critical data.
Any Beckman Institute researcher can acquire file storage space. Access to storage can be made available to anyone with a UIUC Active Directory password. This storage is made available through a SMB/CIFS (Windows native) file share. Access permissions may be set for individual or group access.
Up to 200 GB of file space will be made available at no cost to each Beckman faculty member. Additional storage can be obtained for a modest monthly fee. To sign up for this service please contact the ITS Help Desk.
The Beckman File Storage Service Includes disk space and backup. Backup will keep the current file copy and will retain the last revision for 21 days. Deleted files will be retained for 21 days.
A subsidy provided by the Beckman Director allows ITS to provide up to 200GB of premium file storage space to each Beckman faculty member at no cost. Additional storage space is available at the following rate. Charges are based on allocated storage quota and are calculated and billed monthly. Charges can be made to University CFOPs only.
The service is available 24 hours a day, excluding occasional brief outages for routine maintenance to be performed during the normal ITS maintenance hours listed below
In order to use this service you must have the following:
For additional information or to sign up for this service contact the Beckman Institute ITS Help Desk.
To access storage from your computer you must use a SMB/CIFS mount, using the file share name given when you registered. Steps for making a SMB/CIFS mount will vary with the operating system of your computer. Please contact the ITS Help Desk if you need assistance.
Note: UOFI domain credentials will eventually replace UIUC credentials. Most new users of the service will use the UOFI credentials, while long-time users of the service may still use UIUC credentials.
