Donation to support English department activities
Milledgeville Realtor Lynda S. Banks has established the William Wright Banks Sr. Endowment for English at Georgia College in honor of her late husband. Both attended Georgia College.
“To create an endowment at Georgia College is a great privilege,” Mrs. Banks said. “It makes me feel that I am doing something to help enrich the lives of others, and it also causes me to be mindful of the ones who have enriched mine. I chose to honor Dr. Ed Dawson and Dr. Tommy Maxwell with the William Wright Banks endowment because of the admiration I felt for them when I was a student at GSCW. They were my teachers; they became my friends and a lifelong influence — good teachers do that — and there are 416 outstanding teachers at Georgia College who are every day influencing the lives of 6,400 students.”
Mrs. Banks has served for more than a decade on the Georgia College Foundation Board of Trustees. She currently chairs the real property committee and serves on the board’s executive committee.
“Endowments help greatly,” Mrs. Banks said, “and I really enjoy being part of what I find to be a truly rewarding experience.”
The endowment will provide a continuing source of funding for faculty development, publications and department promotional activities.
A realtor since 1971, she established the Wright Banks Realty firm 32 years ago. She serves on the Flannery O'Connor-Andalusia Foundation's board of directors and the Healthcare Foundation of Oconee Regional Medical Center. She is a past president and vice president of Milledgeville Board of Realtors.
