Dr. Dave Bachoon, professor of biological and environmental sciences, was one of ten scientists and economists invited to a three-day meeting on coral reef restoration at the Atlanta Aquarium. Coral reefs are some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet and are shrinking at an alarming rate. Bachoon was the only microbiologist selected to attend because of his recent research on water pollution in the Caribbean. The participants discussed options available to investigate what is killing the reefs and how to save them. They also considered funding priorities for future research projects. 

George H. W. Bush’s Daily Point of Light Award

During the 2012-2013 academic year, volunteer group Georgia College Miracle and students Ashley Pittman and Courtney LaHatte became recipients of former President George H. W. Bush’s Daily Point of Light Award. The award honors individuals or groups across America who have created meaningful change in their communities.

Bobcat Brass Quintet

During 2013, the university’s Bobcat Brass Quintet performed at the Georgia Music Educator’s Association In-Service Conference in Savannah. The experience became the first time an ensemble of all Georgia College students were invited to perform.
