Faiz Hasanuzzaman works on quality of life technology in Pittsburgh.

Senior, The Grove School of Engineering, Electrical Engineering

My Experience Summary:

At summer 2010 I attend an REU program at Carnegie Mellon & University of Pittsburgh. It was the quality of life technology. A program that does research for disable or elderly person in utilizing technology. The job that I was assigned to was to design and implement an application that can detect ingredient within the kitchen to make a meal ex. muffin, oatmeal, and etc. The designed was called the Kitchen Aid Monitor, KMAo. My mentor was Juan Vasquaz who assigned me for this project.

Why I went:

I went there because I want to experience an internship in other facility. I wanted to gain some experience such that I can benefit this opportunity for my future studies. Also the fact that I want to experience something outside of New York. What interested me due to the fact that I always wanted to help and assist people. I really thought I wanted to study and become a Doctor, but many things have changed and started to study electrical engineering. So with an engineering background with filled with technology and information, I can use them to benefit other's such as disable, elderly and just plain regular people. So this program deals with things that I want.

What I Learned:

I have learned to use different type of technology out there such Radio Frequency Identification and how they can be used to many things. I have also learned and excel in multi tasking and socializing with people that are related to my field.

I Remember:

The one thing I remember the most would the part where I got results from my application. I was afraid that I could not able to finish my job, but in the end I accomplish. So doing this application was very tedious work.

Advice For Others:

Be very hard working and never be afraid to ask questions.
