CUNY Dominican Studies Institute/IGlobal Program in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

(January 2-24, 2013)

This program offers a three-week 5-credit course, “The Insular Spanish Carribean Communities in the US..,” in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The course examines the social, political, and economic trajectory of the Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican communities in the United States.

Classes will take place in the modern facilities of Instituto Global de Altos Estudios de Ciencias Sociales (IGlobal).  In addition to classes, the program includes conferences, documentary screening, and panel discussions, guided tours and field trips to historical sites that gave primacy to Dominican society and marked the history of the rest of the Americas.

This course is open to researchers, graduate, and senior undergraduate students, as well as professionals involved in research or policy-making interested in understanding the Spanish Caribbean peoples in the U.S.  An intermediate level of Spanish (reading and comprehension) is required for the course.  Assignments and discussions may be in Spanish or English.

Program cost: $3,100 plus tuition, airfare, and meals.
