Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience Department

The study and practice of medicine rest on a thorough knowledge of physiological processes and their relationship to body function and disease states. This knowledge base provides the foundation needed for the further study of pharmacology and neuroscience, as well as pathophysiology and medicine.

Members of the Department of Physiology & Pharmacology are engaged in the teaching of physiology, pharmacology, neuroscience and neuropsychiatry to medical students in the Sophie Davis program at CCNY. Our faculty also actively participates in the teaching of doctoral students at the Graduate Center of The City University of New York. Graduate students in Neuroscience, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Biochemistry are mentored in our laboratories which are located at CCNY. The faculty is engaged in biomedical research in the areas of cancer biology, molecular and cellular neurobiology, neurophysiology, behavioral neuropharmacology, psychopharmacology, neuronal plasticity and motor learning.
