Welcome to the Graduate Programs in Special Education

at

The City College of New York!

The School of Education at the City College of New York offers two graduate programs in Special Education:

Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Childhood Education (Grades 1-6),

and

Teacher of Students with Disabilities in Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12).

The two programs in special education require 31-43 credit hours (depending on your previous coursework) and lead to a Master of Science in Education degree. The inclusion model of delivering special education services in an urban environment is emphasized, but candidates will be prepared to work in self-contained environments as well.
Our candidates develop a knowledge base and set of skills that prepare them to incorporate research-based instructional strategies focused on addressing the diverse learning needs of the students they teach/will teach. Candidates leave prepared to work in New York City schools and help their students meet current New York State learning standards.
