There are five programs offered in the Graduate Programs in Early Childhood Education:
The Graduate Program Leading to Initial Certification is Stream A. It is a 40-46 credit program for individuals who have no prior experience in education. After completing this program, along with successfully completing the New York State Teacher Certification Exams (LAST, ATSW, and CST), the School of Education will recommend a graduate of this program for State certification.
The Graduate Program Leading to Professional Certification is Stream B. It is a 30-34 credit program for individuals who have Initial Certification in Early Childhood Education (completed at the undergraduate level). After completing this program and three of years of teaching, the graduate will be eligible to apply for the New York State Professional Certificate.
The Graduate Program Leading to Initial Certification for Holders of an Initial Certificate in Childhood Education is Stream C. This is a 34-37 credit program for individuals who have Initial Certification in Childhood Education (completed at the undergraduate level) and want to obtain an initial certificate in Early Childhood Education through the Master's Degree. After completing this program and three of years of teaching, the graduate will be eligible for a Professional Certificate in both Childhood and Early Childhood Education.
The Certificate Program in Early Childhood Education is Stream D. It is an opportunity for those who already have a Master's Degree and certification in Childhood Education to extend their certification to Early Childhood Education. This program is 15 credits.
The M.S. Ed. in Early Childhood Education (non-certification). This 31-32 credit program is for individuals interested in learning about how to support the learning and development of young children but who do not want to get certified as a teacher in New York State.Suggested Course Sequence for Initial Certification
