The General Education requirement is at the heart of the educational mission of The City College of New York; our faculty intend for students to graduate not only with essential skills in writing, critical thinking, information literacy and quantitative reasoning, but with the excitement of academic discovery in a variety of disciplines and a firm grounding in ethics. The educational mission of The City College of New York is to provide a diverse student body with opportunities to achieve academically, creatively, and professionally in their chosen fields.
General Education Proficiencies Rubrics are used to assess students' learning as they progress through the curriculum. FIQWS and "W" Perspectives address writing, critical thinking and information literacy skills while FQUAN/Math and "Q" Perspectives address quantitative skills (see General Education Course Matrix)
