Information for Students
What is the Fall Into Volunteering Fair?
The Fall Into Volunteering Fair works just like a job fair; representatives from various nonprofit organizations will be on campus in one location recruiting students. As the name suggests, they will primarily be offering volunteer opportunities, but occasionally they have job or internship possibilities as well. And of course, if you’re looking to eventually get a job or internship with an organization, volunteering first is a great way to get to know the people in the field and the work you’d like to do.

Is there a suggested dress code?
Dress is typically more casual than at a job fair. But we think everyone looks good in UIS gear!
Do I need to register?
Nope. Just show up the day of the event. We will provide free refreshments for those students who check in at our informational tables, however. You’ll also get more information on the nonprofits attending and the work they do.

You can find a map of the campus at http://www.uis.edu/maps. The Main Concourse is on the Lower Level of the PAC, by the Bursar’s Office.
There is metered parking available in a circle drive directly in front of the PAC. You may also park in Visitor Parking Lots C and D. Please let us know if there are any problems with parking.
Unload / Set-up:
If you have a number of things to unload, we would suggest doing so in the circle drive, as this entrance will take you directly into the Main Concourse. Each organization will have one 6-foot table and two chairs. The tables will be available from 10:30 AM onwards. Lunchtime foot traffic is heaviest from 11:30 – 12:15 and 1:00 – 2:00.
Where do I register?
Click here to use our online registration system. Please let us know immediately if you encounter any technical difficulties.
I have job and internship opportunities too. Can I offer these to students?
Absolutely. We encourage organizations to offer a variety of positions if they have them.
What if I register and then find out I can’t attend the event?
As soon as you find out that you will not be able to attend, please call the Volunteer Center at 206-7716 and let us know. We may have a waiting list of organizations that would like to attend, and we’d like to give them an opportunity if a spot opens up.
What if I’m going to arrive late, or leave early?
Again, please let us know as soon as you can. We strongly encourage you to attend the entire event. Because of demand for space at this fair, and out of respect for our students, we ask that you be able to attend at least two hours of the event.
I have more questions about the event, or about getting UIS students to volunteer, intern, or work-study at my organization. Who do I contact?
Our office is here to listen to your ideas and to answer your questions. We hope to utilize the great energy and talent of our university to make Springfield a better place to live, work, and play. You are all an essential part of that goal, and we’d like to help you in whatever way we can. Internships and work-study are handled by different parts of the university, so let us know what your need is and we’ll put you in contact with the right people.
