136 Local businesses, others will attend huge career fair at UIS

Many local businesses and organizations will be at the 2013 “Foot in the Door” career fair in TRAC at UIS on September 26. The event is sponsored by the UIS Career Development Center and the UIS College of Business and Management.

131 Volleyball players scavenge to learn about the community

Coach Noelle Rook sent her volleyball players around town to have pictures taken at a lot of historic sites and local businesses. The pictures were posted on Twitter; you can find them by looking for @UISvolleyball on Twitter. The idea was for them to get to know the community better.

129 High-powered community committee got UIS going

A committee of fifteen people called the Committee for Higher Education in Central Illinois led the way in the 1960s to raise $1 million to buy the land for a community college (Lincoln Land) and university (Sangamon State, now called UIS). A resolution forever remembering these fifteen people hangs in the Hatmaker Room at UIS.

113 More than 40 health providers, businesses attend Wellness Day

More than 40 local health providers and businesses filled the TRAC for the annual UIS Wellness Day, a health fair that features free health screenings, advice on eating healthy, exercise demonstrations, and fun games for children.

You might be surprised to know this center was first launched in 1983. You can find practical real-world advice and there is special attention given to family-owned businesses in central Illinois. UIS also has a Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship.

57 UIS Named to President’s Community Service Honor Roll

In 2013, UIS was named to this honor roll for the fifth straight year. During 2011-12 academic year, UIS students spent 65,181 hours engaged in community service.
