SGA Position: Senator of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Why did you run for SGA?

I have been a member of various SGA committees during my time at UIS. Last year, I was the secretary of a committee of SGA, the Student Organization Funding Association (SOFA). I was a member of the Governmental Affairs Committee and Nickname/Mascot Task Force as well. This is my second year on the Committee on Vision and Campus Relations, so I feel I have become adjusted to large group settings, similar to how the SGA is constructed. This year I am the chair of is committee, where programs such as STARewards and the 99 Problems Campaign are handled. I ran for SGA to represent my fellow students in the college Liberal Arts and Sciences, and to take my experience I have had with SGA thus far and expand on it.

What are your goals for the upcoming year on SGA?

One of my goals for this year is to communicate with members of my college in order see what their primary concerns are. Going along with this, this year I would like to gain even more responses from the 99 Problems Campaign in order to see what issues students would like to see addressed. I think the by accomplishing this, I will be more visible as an SGA member for my peers and will be able to solve some issues they may be having on campus.

What other organizations/activities are you involved with at UIS?

I am the vice-president of the History Club, a member of the Pre-Law Society, and a member of Kids at Heart.

What is your favorite thing about UIS?

My favorite thing about UIS would have to be the fact that if someone wants to be involved, they are able to do so with ease. There are a lot of clubs and organizations on campus that students can join! I think this was a great way for me to be involved and make the friends I have to this day and hope other students will do the same!

What are your career aspirations?

I plan on going to law school next year with a focus on health law. Ideally, I would like to assist women who are trying to secure their health rights.
