Resident Assistants at Illinois Springfield

Your Resident Assistant (RA) is one of the most important people you will interact with at UIS.

Your RA is a student who resides in your court or residence hall wing. The RA’s are selected because of their leadership potential, interpersonal skills, positive attitudes, and sense of responsibility and fairness. Your RA’s are experienced residents and students.

The RA’s basic role is to provide leadership and support to you and your neighbors and to monitor and implement the policies and procedures of student housing. If you get to know your RA you will learn how to utilize his or her knowledge and skills.

Contacting Your RA

The RA’s are the primary people you can contact with a problem or concern. You may call your RA to assist you with noise complaints, lockouts, dealing with roommate conflicts, and to hear your programming ideas.

In addition to having an RA assigned to your area, you also have access to an “on-duty” RA. An RA is on duty every night to assist you when your RA is not available. On weekdays RA’s start their duty shifts at 5:00pm and are available until 8:00am the next morning. On weekends, an RA on duty is available 24 hours.

You may call the Housing Commons at 206-6190 or the campus police at 206-6690 to reach the RA on duty.
