Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) for Women

A FREE training for all UIS women students, staff & faculty

Tuesday evenings in February 2011-

February 1, 8, 15, and 22

6-9 pm

It was RAD that made all the difference! Without RAD, I don’t know what would have happened to me. Anonymous UIS Capital Scholar who survived an off-campus attempted abduction and rape.

A physical attack years ago took away my ability to shout but RAD gave me back my voice plus the power and confidence to defend myself. Patty Stoutamyer, UIS staff

I thought it was a great experience. It was very empowering, but also fun. I also got to make some friends there. Besides, where else do you get the opportunity to beat up in a guy in a padded suit. It was all great! Carrie Ramsden, UIS student

Self-defense training provides women not only with the skills to effectively fight back against future assaults but also many other physical and psychological benefits, including increased self-esteem, assertiveness, and physical competence. Leanne Brecklin, UIS Criminal Justice professor

This is important. Take the time. It’s worth it. Karen Moranski, UIS administrator

Join our RAD partners, Sgt. Mike Stuart and Ofc. Amanda Baughman from the UIS Police, for women’s self-defense training. We always receive rave reviews and high commendations from those who complete this 12-hour course. The women tell us it is empowering beyond their expectations and that it impacts their lives positively and in ways they didn’t foresee. Contact the UIS Women’s Center at 206.7173 or womenscenter@uis.edu to enroll. To learn more about RAD, check out this website: http://www.uis.edu/police/rad.htm

For more information on acquaintance and stranger rape prevention as well as rape survivor support, information and referrals – please contact the Women’s Center. And remember – friends, family and others who care about rape victims/survivors need support, too. We are here for you.
