Academic Advising

The Psychology department uses a Shared Model of advising. As a Psychology major you will have two advisors – a faculty member and a professional advisor. Any faculty member in the department can serve as your faculty advisor. Ms. Robin Vansacik will be the professional advisor for all Psychology majors and minors. As the department’s professional advisor, Ms. Vansacik will be one of the first points of contact for any questions you may have regarding the Psychology program at UIS. You will work with her regarding class choices and registration, analysis of your degree audits (i.e., DARS), selecting your concentration, and other important functions. She can also assist with referrals to other offices and resources (e.g., the Center for Teaching and Learning). You should meet with your academic adviser at least once each semester to plan courses for the next semester.

1. Find out more about the roles of faculty and the professional advisor in the shared model of advising.

2. Psychology Concentration Selection Form To designate your concentration, please go to this link, complete the entire form, print it out, and then get it to Records and Registration. In the Current Curriculum Information area, use the pull-down menus to indicate your current major(s) and minor(s). If your browser does not allow you to access the pull-down menus you should use a different browser. The pull-down menus contain specific codes. If you submit a form that does not have the proper codes your petition will not be approved. If you do not have a minor, you may leave that menu blank. You should list all of your current major(s) and minor(s) here even if you are not changing them. In the New Curriculum Information area, use the pull-down menus to indicate your new majors and minors. Make sure that you list all of your major(s) and minor(s) in the New Curriculum Information area, even if you are not changing them. If you do not list all of the majors or minors you wish to be enrolled in using the New Curriculum Information area, you may be dropped from that major or minor.
