Pre-law Programs

As with almost all other colleges and universities, the University of Illinois Springfield does not have a specific pre-law major.   Pre-law is not a major, but rather a pre-professional designation, stating that you want to attend law school.

Law schools do not require a specific undergraduate major, so as a UIS student contemplating law school, you can choose from a large variety of majors such as:

Although law schools do not insist that applicants have a particular major, they do demand that students have a sound academic background with excellent skills in reading, writing, public speaking and critical thinking.

The UIS Pre-Law Center provides UIS pre-law students with general educational program recommendations and individual counseling to make sure that they take the appropriate kinds of preparatory courses and get the necessary academic background for success in law school.
