Dr. Steve Schwark

Steve Schwark’s research and writing have focussed on international relations and American foreign policy, with a particular interest in the presidential foreign policies of John Kennedy and Jimmy Carter. A former scholar of US-Soviet relations during the Cold War, he now concentrates primarily on American foreign policy in the Middle East. His research on Carter has attempted to explore the impact of Carter’s religious views on his diplomacy in that region; the initial work looked at Carter’s peacemaking efforts leading to the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. Planned research includes an examination of Carter’s policies towards the Shah of Iran and the Iranian Revolution.

Schwark teaches courses that range from Introduction to International Relations, American Foreign Policy, War & Peace, Russian Politics, and International Politics of the Middle East. He is also Director of International Studies.
