Demetrius Delancy is from Nassau Bahamas. He was educated at Saint John’s College in the Bahamas and he also studied piano privately for 9 years before pursuing further musical studies at Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee.
Demetrius enrolled at Fisk as a music major concentrating in piano performance. While at Fisk, Demetrius was involved in the several musical ensembles including the Fisk University Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Fisk Jubilee Singers. While a Jubilee Singer, Demetrius got the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He was also involved with Fisk’s Caribbean Student Union, Fisk Sinfonics Club (which is now the Zeto Rho colony of Phi Mu Alpha Inc.) and was a traveling member of Fisk’s Honda Campus All-Star team which is a national college bowl competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
After graduating from Fisk with a Bachelor of Music in 2003, Demetrius spent the summer working as a professional singer with the Junaluska Singers at the Lake Junaluska Conference and Retreat Centre in Junaluska, North Carolina. In August, Demetrius returned to the Bahamas where he was employed as a high school music teacher at Kingsway Academy High School.
Demetrius returned to the United States in August of 2004 to further pursue his studies. He enrolled in the Master of Public Administration program concentrating in Community Arts Management at the University of Illinois at Springfield. He is also pursuing a graduate certificate in the Management of Non Profit Organizations. Demetrius will graduate in the Spring of 2006.
While at UIS he has served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Center for Teacher and Learning 2004-2005, Vice President of Advocates for Academics 2004-2005 and is currently a member of the UIS chorus.
