UIS Music

The UIS Music program welcomes students from all majors and colleges within the University to take classes in ethnomusicology, music history, music theory, music technology and music performance.

Invest In UIS

The UIS Music Program introduces students to the academic study of music at the collegiate level. It offers students the opportunity to learn about diverse musical instruments and styles, to advance their performance technique, to master fundamental programs in music technology and to learn about various music career options. Students, faculty, staff and community members are welcome to participate in music courses and ensembles.

Scholarships

Students of all majors are eligible to apply for a wide range of music scholarships. A point of pride is the prestigious UIS Camerata Scholarship, a renewable $10,000 scholarship that is one of the largest non-major music scholarships in the country. Additional opportunities include work-study positions and graduate assistant opportunities. See additional scholarship information.

Performance Ensembles

Music Ensembles at UIS include Chorus, Band, and Chamber Orchestra. Each ensemble performs at a number of concerts each year, including the UIS Fall and Spring Showcase Concert. Ensembles are open to students, faculty, staff and Springfield community members and welcome musicians from a range of skill levels. Additional ensemble opportunities include Basketball Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Old Time Jam.

The UIS Music program offers undergraduate classes in ethnomusicology, music history, music technology, music theory and performance.
