Dr. Nathan Steele Named One of Forty Under 40
NathanSteel--Summer 13--40 Under 40--resized Nathan Steele, Associate Professor of Management, was honored by the Springfield Business Journal as one of forty professionals under the age of 40 who represent the future of business in Springfield and surrounding communities. When asked, “What is the best ‘perk’ of your job?” Dr. Steele replied, “Being surrounded by a variety of subject matter experts and young minds that are excited about learning.” Dr. Steel teaches MBA core course, Organizational Behavior.
Bruce Sommer Introduces Entrepreneurship to Teenagers
Bruce Sommer--Summer 13 Nineteen area high school seniors have been selected to participate in an innovative new course. The students will spend each day of the school year in a morning class held at a different business location. Throughout the year, the class will learn the principles of business ownership and will work together to run a business with each student taking on various roles of its execution. By the end of the second semester, the students will launch their chosen business model by presenting it to investors at a trade show. “Once students network with current business leaders, they will be more likely to come back and start businesses here and be successful,” said Bruce Sommer, Program Chair.
The UIS Center for Entrepreneurship is the leading partner in this initiative so high schools students will be on campus often and interacting with UIS MBA students. As Visiting Instructor of Management at UIS, Bruce teaches Entrepreneurship electives and Business Perspectives in the MBA program. He is also a local business owner.
