Managers and top executives hold over three million jobs in the U.S. They are the organizational leaders who formulate the policies and direct the operations of corporations, nonprofit institutions, and government agencies.
A global economy is creating a strong demand for managers at all levels who can do more than just manage. Managers need to be problem solvers, excellent communicators, forward thinkers, and, most importantly, leaders who understand that developing people is still the key to gaining a competitive edge.
General managers are found in every industry, with six out of ten people employed in wholesale and retail trade and service industries. Managing hotels, food service enterprises, retail sales, travel agencies, athletic and recreation facilities, and real estate brokerages represent just a few of the possibilities.
Management graduates are employed in mid and upper level management positions in state and local government, manufacturing, service, health care, and not-for-profit organizations.
