Day of Silence 2011
On the annual Day of Silence, hundreds of thousands of students nationwide take some form of a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBTQ bullying and harassment to organize a change for their schools and their community. In 2011 the LGBTQ, Latino and Hispanic communities at UIS stand together. ’United We Dream’ of a campus where marginalized and undocumented students are encouraged to come out of the shadows and embrace their identities. We ask our fellow UIS students to unite to raise awareness and promote inquisitive intersectionality against oppression, hate and inequality.
At the end of the day there is Break the Silence where all the participants discuss their experiences.
