Application Requirements

legal studies online Master’s Degree Admission Requirements
Our application process is the same for both our online and on campus programs.

Our new cohort begins each fall; however, students may apply to begin in either the spring or fall semester.  (Students who begin in the spring semester are limited to taking electives their first semester.)  Applications for spring 2015 and fall 2015 are currently being accepted. Applicants for spring are encouraged to apply prior to October 1st for priority consideration.  Applicants for fall are encouraged to apply prior to March 1st for priority consideration.  Applications are reviewed by the Legal Studies Admissions Committee on a monthly basis, and will be continued to be reviewed until the cohort is filled.

In order to be admitted into the Legal Studies Master’s Degree Program, students must have obtained their bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university. No particular undergraduate major is required of applicants. Applicants are expected to have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; however, on occasion, if a student has significant professional experience or qualifying graduate work, an exception is made to the minimum cumulative GPA requirements.  Applicants to the Legal Studies Master’s Degree Program must exhibit the ability to write effectively in order to be considered for full admittance to the program.

Applying to the Legal Studies Master’s Program is a two part process, as applicants need to apply to both the University of Illinois Springfield and the Legal Studies Online Master’s Degree Program.
