Photo of Brett. Brett Walker interned with the Illinois Innocence Project in Spring and Summer 2010 before graduating and continuing to law school in Fall 2010 at Washington University in St. Louis. He plans on working in the field of criminal law once he completes law school.
Similar to other students involved with the Project, Brett also claims that the class “Conviction of the Innocent” sparked his interest in the subject. The discussions and projects in the class illuminated the prevalence and disastrous consequences of wrongful convictions; thus compelling him to get involved with the Project.
Over the course of the internship, Brett worked with other student interns, professional staff members, and attorneys to help develop intake criteria for cases, as well as reviewing possible cases, attending court motion hearings, assisting in the organization of discovery for cases, and researching wrongful conviction causal factors.
