Men’s and Women’s Golf
Faculty Member: Marcel Yoder, PhD, Psychology
The primary reason that I choose to be a faculty partner for the men’s and women’s golf team is to interact with the golfers and coaches. Given that golf is such a mental sport, I feel that I can work with coaches to help the players with that part of their game. Helping them sharpen their abilities of relaxation, imagery, and confidence has been a highlight for me. I also feel that it’s important that students in sports like golf, where fan support isn’t at the level of some other sports, know they are appreciated.
Coach: Frank Marsaglia, Head Coach, Men’s and Women’s Golf
Frank Marsaglia Dr. Marcel Yoder’s commitment and support to the Athletic Department has been evident for years as the Faculty Athletics Representative. But he has also been the Golf team’s faculty partner. He is much more than just a partner, it’s like he is part of the coaching staff. We could not have hoped for a better partner. His support and encouragement to the team plays a big role. Wishing them good luck before we leave for meets or stopping at practice to support the teams is just the tip of what he does. We have relied on his expertise in Psychology field to hold sessions with the teams on the mental side of the game. His sessions with Max Rooke, assistant men’s soccer coach, in the Competitive Edge Program has been vital to the program and he is truly a partner that has as much influence on the team’s performance as I do.
