Make a Difference for a Winning Program

Under the leadership of Ray Schroeder, Associate Vice Chancellor for Online Learning, and Vickie Cook, Director of the Center for Online Learning, Research and Service (COLRS), the Center is the UIS hub for the study and application of online learning pedagogy, technology, and best practices. The Center supports original scholarly research; builds synergies between research and online education practices; empowers UIS faculty in the delivery of online education; and builds online collaborations. Your gifts to one of the funds below will support these activities.

COLRS (Center for Online Learning, Research and Service Fund)

This fund provides general support for the Center, specifically service projects and research in online learning.

Grace Brorstrom Oakley Scholarship

Grace Brorstrom Oakley dedicated much of her time to encouraging women and economically disadvantaged persons to achieve a secondary education. Before terminal illness claimed her life in the early’ 90s, Ms. Brorstrom Oakley had been instrumental in establishing several scholarships for this target population. The Grace Brorstrom Oakley Scholarship was established in 1994, by her son, UIS Research Professor Burks Oakley, II. This is a scholarship for online students. As a continuance of Ms. Oakley’s life mission, preference is given to single mothers who have returned to college after being out for a period of time.

Burks Oakley II Distinguished Online Teaching Award

Burks Oakley II is also another award-winning, world-renowned online learning expert who contributes to UIS’ stellar online reputation. The Oakley Teaching Award honors the high standard that our UIS faculty have set for online teaching. The award goes to a professor who has done a particularly good job teaching online.

Create your own scholarship

You can also create your own named scholarship fund–either a current use scholarship or an endowed scholarship–that targets online students. As the principle donor, you would get to name the fund and establish the selection criteria.
