Mission of the Faculty Fellows
The COLRS Faculty Fellows will coordinate, facilitate and advocate for research on online and blended learning. The goals of the COLRS Faculty Fellows include:
- To stimulate and support research on online and blended learning
- To foster inter-institutional collaborative research projects
- To explore the application of educational technologies in online teaching and learning
- To investigate and advocate for the quality and effectiveness of online and blended course offering
- To document the impact of online instruction on teaching and learning
- To disseminate UIS’ research findings
- To lead and support efforts to secure grant funding for research that supports the mission of COLRS
- To provide mentorship to faculty teaching online

Full-time, tenured or tenure track UIS faculty with a commitment to teaching online.
Terms of Appointment
Two year term
Interested applicants will need to submit the following items to COLRS via a webform.
- Current vita.
- Application document (2-3 pages) answering the following questions (via webform):
- Why are you interested in becoming a COLRS Faculty Fellow?
- What will be your research agenda as a COLRS Faculty Fellow (specific to the mission/goals of COLRS)?
- What deliverables from your research agenda will you expect to complete during your term as a COLRS Research Fellows (i.e., conference presentation, peer-review journal article)?
- What is your online teaching experience?
- Statement of Support from your Department Chair (or Dean, if you are a Department Chair)
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
If selected as a COLRS Research Fellow, applicant is expected to do the following:
- Be engaged in research on online teaching and learning following campus research protocols.
- Attend COLRS Faculty Fellow meetings.
- Present or co-present your research work at a COLRS-sponsored UIS event (e.g., faculty development workshop, Tech Day presentation, Community of Practice in e-Learning workshop).
- Provide a brief overview of your research agenda as a COLRS Faculty Fellow for publication on the COLRS Faculty Fellows Website/Blog.
- Provide a picture for publication on the COLRS Faculty Fellows website/blog.
- Provide an annual progress report to COLRS.
Selection of Faculty Fellows
A Call for Applications will occur during the Spring semester with appointments beginning the following fall. The anticipated schedule for 2016 is as follows:

Announcement of Selected Faculty Fellows: Friday, May 6, 2016
Faculty Fellow Term Begins: Monday, August 22, 2016
Criteria for Selection
COLRS Faculty Fellows will be selected based on the fit of the proposed work with the research mission of COLRS, their potential for significant contribution, as shown by the quality of their application, and a prior record of success. Selection will be made by the Director of COLRS, on recommendation of the active COLRS Faculty Fellows.
