Contact My Students
It is very important for students to know where, when, and how to start their online class. COLRS has provided a sample letter that you may use to email to your students during semester start-up.
Ways to contact students in your online course:
- E-mail Use your campus email to communicate concerns with students. This way you will have a record of contacts. Also, email from Blackboard. Blackboard copies you the content of the email was, but does not keep a record of the contacts.
- Messages Messages are private and secure text-based communication tool in Blackboard that occurs within a Course . Although similar to email, users must be logged into the Course to read and send Messages. There are no notifications that a student or instructor has received a message.
- Journals A Journal is a self-reflective tool for students in Blackboard. Only the student and the Instructor are able to comment on Journal Entries. However, Journals can be made public by the Instructor to allow other enrolled users read the entries. A reason to make a journal public is if a student has a specific question about an assignment and you want to share your answer with the whole class. Please get permission from your student to share their journal prior to sharing it with the class.
- Social Networking Sites Social interactions between instructor and student can enhance the instructor/student relationship, extend the resources available to students, and offer a chance for outside class communication. ITS has many resources for using social networking tools in your course.
