CLS students have the opportunity to serve as leaders and learn leadership through the Clinical Laboratory Science Club as well as other opportunities such as representing the CLS students on the CLS Advisory Committee. Some students are also involved in other campus organizations, such as the dance team and organizing or helping with student life activities.
Sometimes students run for Illinois state leadership positions for the state society of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. For the past 2 years, the entire slate of officers has come from UIS. For 2014-15, Jynelle Moyer, Megan Hoots, and Steve Brake were elected (see below).
For 2013-14, the officers were Wyatt Williams, Cassie Singer, Courtney Lower, and Courtney Jumper (see below). Courtney Lower, the chair of the Illinois Student Forum, attended the national meeting in Houston and was elected secretary of the national Student Forum.
