Students in the African-American Studies program get to participate in a variety of interesting and exciting events and opportunities.

Over the years, the program have sponsored a two-day Symposium studying The AAS student an entrepreneur behind Taste of Africa smiles at the 2005 HipHop Symposium.
Hip-Hop culture, with both formal academic presentations along with an evening fashion show and concert.

AAS also works with Sankofa, the official Black Student Union at UIS. Our students have a network of faculty, a graduate assistant, and fellow students they can turn to for advice, social events, and
