students Freshman Transfer

As a new student bringing in between 12 and 29 college credit hours, you are considered a freshman transfer. By jump-starting your college career, you have established yourself as a determined individual with ambition and drive. The Advising Center is here to help you stay focused and on track. The advisors will help you determine the best ways to complete your general education and university requirements, suggest courses to prepare you for your major, and assist your transition to your faculty advisor in your major program. You are expected to participate in Transfer or New First Year Student Orientation to become familiar with UIS programs, services, and resources geared toward supporting your academic success.

Sophomore Transfer

As a new student entering with 30 to 59 college credit hours, you are considered a sophomore transfer. The academic advisors are available to assist your transition and adjustment to UIS. The advisors monitor your progress in your general education and university requirement courses, and help you select appropriate coursework in preparation for your major. When you are ready, you will be assigned a faculty advisor in your major program. You are invited to attend New Transfer Student Orientation to become familiar with the programs, services and resources at UIS supporting your academic success.

Undeclared Transfer

As a new student entering UIS with at least 60 college credit hours and/or your Associate’s degree, you are a junior transfer student. By the time you complete your first semester at UIS, you will establish an advising relationship with a faculty advisor in your major program. The undergraduate academic advisors work in conjunction with your faculty advisor to assure that your coursework outside the major meets all the general education and university requirements. You are invited to attend New Transfer Student Orientation to become familiar with the programs, services and resources at UIS supporting your academic success.
