UIS Feature: Citizens of the World

UIS student Bridget Donley traveled to The Gambia, West Africa. She chose The Gambia because she works to help families, primarily West Africans, immigrate legally to America. “After experiencing Africa for myself, I now have a much greater appreciation of the continent of Africa and the diversity of its land and people,” she says.

UIS Feature: Citizens of the World

Sociology student Ryan Walsh says studying abroad at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia was one of the best decisions he’s made, and his only regret is that he couldn’t stay longer. He encourages students to study abroad in order to get out of their comfort zones, and to immerse themselves in a cross-cultural experience.

UIS Feature: Throwback Thursday

A photograph from the first Floppy Hat Day, held April 16, 1971 at Sangamon State University. The event was held in response to criticisms from a State Senator regarding Professor Gus Stevens' wearing a hat "in the presence of ladies." Stevens commented: "It's not what we wear, but what's under our hats that counts."
