Freedom Riders Shawnee Community College Presents "Freedom Riders" - Mar. 3rd
Shawnee Community College and the Alexander-Pulaski NAACP (National Association For The Advancement of Colored People) will be hosting a showing of "Freedom Riders", an inspirational story surrounding a band of civil rights activists who changed America forever on Thursday, March 3rd, in the SCC Cafeteria. The movie will begin at 6:00pm.

One of the students in the SI Bridges program, Darmez Nelson has gained a lot of success, mentorship, and memories. Darmez of Ullin, Illinois received his Associate of Arts and Associates of Science from Shawnee Community College in 2014. He is in his second year of the SI Bridges program wanting to pursue his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Shawnee Community College SCC Student Spotlight- Brandon Tanner
Brandon graduated from Vienna High School in 2010. He then furthered his education at Shawnee Community College earning his Associates of Science degree in 2012. Tanner then finished his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale in 2014. Brandon currently works as an Aviation Engineer Intern (E.I.T) for Hanson Professional Services, Inc.

Shawnee Community College SCC Students Begin Research Training
The SI Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program is a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded grant partnership between Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, Shawnee Community College and John A. Logan College. The program is designed to enable community college students to learn skills and abilities, which will enable them to conduct scientific research in the biomedical or behavioral sciences.

Austin Lee McAllister of Thebes, Illinois received the American Degree in the National FFA Organization National FFA Convention on November 1, 2014. There are 610,240 FFA members nationwide and 3,765 members this year received their American Degree. Out of the 3,765 members that received this prestigious award, 111 of them were from Illinois.

Shawnee Community College SCC Holds Annual PTK Induction Ceremony
The Alpha Lambda Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society held their fall induction ceremony on October 22, 2014. Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society of the two-year college and students with a high 3.5 or better grade point average in at least 12 transfer hours are invited for membership. These are the top 10% of all students in a two-year college.

Shawnee Community College's Nursing Department walked in the AHA (American Heart Association) Heart Walk on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Carterville. The nursing students collected $2,460.00 and the whole college collected $3,561.00 for the AHA.
