Blacks Learning Academic Survival Techniques (BLAST) Program

SSC will use the PBI Grant to have a positive impact on our African American Students by providing supportive services to those dealing with challenges in achieving academic success.  We will also positively influence and improve student learning outcomes through this initiative.

To support these student academic success outcomes, these federal funds support:

  • The Structured Learning Assistance Program which is utilizing SLA facilitators in English, Chemistry, Math, Music and Reading to provide additional academic support outside the classroom, immediately following the class.
  • An endowment through our SSC Foundation which provides $100 cash scholarships for 40 eligible students;
  •  A summer course and textbook scholarship for eligible students;
  • The technical upgrading of classrooms and computer labs at both the SSC Main Campus and the Oak Forest Center.
