CLEMSON UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT TEAM WINS MAJOR AWARD IN SWEDEN
An 8-person team of Clemson University undergraduate students participated in the 5th annual Stockholm Model United Nations conference (SMUN) in Stockholm, Sweden, November 21-23, 2008. At a Model United Nations conference, teams from different universities represent countries in the United Nations, and engage in debates in order to pass resolutions to promote their respective national interests as well as global welfare. The Clemson University team of Adedoyin Salami and Natasha Korba was awarded the prize of the Outstanding Delegation to the Food and Agriculture Committee, where nearly all of the universities at the conference were represented.
The Clemson team represented four different countries in three committees, where about 150 students from around the world represented 40 countries. The Clemson students accepted to the conference went through a rigorous application process involving selection from a pool of over 1,900 international applicants. The three conference committees were the Security Council, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe.
