DURING THE 2006-07 ACADEMIC YEAR . . .
Steve Horelick (MUS) was nominated for an Emmy for scoring the PBS children’s series “Reading Rainbow.” Jerry Carlson (MCA) was also nominated for an Emmy for “Canape.”
Dulce Garcia (FLL) received the College’s Outstanding Teaching Award. (Nick Pappas (PHIL) won the Award last year.)
Students Beverly Hinds (MCA) and Judith Castillo (FLL) received $5,000 Zitrin Peer Mentoring Awards. Students Rubin Ramirez and Hrboje Slovenc (ART) won $16,000 Mortimer Hays-Brandeis Fellowships.
Lynn Appelbaum (MCA) was named a Fellow by the Public Relations Society of America, a distinction earned by only one percent of the membership. Ed Keller (MCA) was named Marketing Columnist for the Trump Institute. MCA students Sal Lombardo and Morgan Schreiber, with the mentoring of MCA professor Nancy Tag, won the national One Show advertising competition in the Client Pitch Category
Ina Saltz (ART) was interviewed on FOX TV about her new book Body Type: Typographic Tattoos Etched in Flesh, which won awards from the American Library Association and the New York Library.
Greg Downs (HIST) won the Flannery O’Connor Award for his short-story collection Spit Baths. Mark Mirsky (ENGL)’s play “Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard” was selected for 10th annual NYC Fringe Festival over the summer.
Beth Baron (HIST) was named a Carnegie Scholar for 2007, with an award of $100,000 over two years in support of her book on American and Middle Eastern Muslim Women. Josh Wilner (ENGL) was elected president of the International Conference on Romanticism. Dean Fred Reynolds (ENGL) was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Civitella Ranieri Foundation.
Four THTR alums—Ruth Sullivan, Yolanda Suero, Francisco Delgado, and Minerva Pascual—had lead and featured roles in Take the Bridge, which previewed at MOMA and aired at the Tribeca Film Festival.
