The Macaulay Honors College at City College

About the Program

City College is a participating college in the university-wide Macaulay Honors College, which accepts new first-year students with outstanding academic records. The program, which has students at seven colleges, encourages the highest level of academic accomplishment, cross-campus community, career exploration and service.

Students in the Honors College at City College receive:

• Full-tuition scholarships
• A free state-of-the-art Macintosh laptop computer
  
• A study grant of $7,500 to fund enriching experiences such as study abroad and service learning away.
• Special interdisciplinary seminars using NYC as resource and text
• A "cultural passport" providing entrée to the riches of New York City, including concerts, theater, art, science and history museums and galleries
• Intensive mentoring and advisement from faculty and dedicated honors advisors
• First-day registration privileges

Eligibility

The Macaulay Honors College program at The City College admits only new first-year students. Admission is highly competitive.
Students in any major may be accepted into the Honors College. Students accepted into both the Honors College and the Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education B.S./M.D. program (which requires a special application) cannot enroll in both programs, but must select one.

For the class admitted fall 2008 (Class of 2012), the average high school G.P.A. was 94.6 (on a scale of 100) and the average SAT (math and verbal) was 1402.

Admissions Deadlines
The deadline for Macaulay Honors College is December 1.
Macaulay Honors College no longer offers an early decision option.  You will receive a decision regarding you Macaulay admission postmarked by March 15. 

Requirements

All Honors College students take four special interdisciplinary seminars focusing
on NYC and fulfill additional liberal arts core requirements in the City College Honors program  (depending on their major). In the upper division (junior and senior years), students may take additional honors college sponsored courses and must complete a senior project.

Students must complete an internship or study abroad program and have a minimum of 30 hours community or college service over the course of their four-year program.

Retention Criteria

Students are expected to achieve an overall 3.3 G.P.A. by the end of their first year and a 3.5 G.P.A. by the end of their second year, which must be maintained until graduation. Upon successful completion of the program, the designation “William E. Macaulay Honors College at The City University of New York” is entered on the student’s record.
