Typically South Suburban College hires a number of adjunct faculty members each semester to teach a variety of courses. Minimum Requirement: A Bachelors degree in any of the life sciences; a Master’s degree in Education or any of the life sciences.
Preferred Requirements: Master degree preferred. Teaching experience in a high school or community college setting; the ability to teach Microbiology, General Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology.
Course: DRM 120 – Stagecraft
Minimum Requirement: M.A. in Theatre and experience designing and building sets.
Preferred Requirement: 2 – 3 years of teaching experience
Course: DRM 151 – Theatre Appreciation
Minimum Requirement: M.A. in Theatre or Drama
Preferred Requirement: 2 – 3 years of teaching experience
Course: ENG 097 – Writer’s Workshop I
Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. in English Education; 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.
Course: ENG 098 – Writer’s Workshop II
Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. in English Education; 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.
Course: ENG 099 – Writer’s Workshop III (Developmental Writing)
Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. in English Education; 2+ years of teaching experience preferred.
Course: ENG 101 – Composition and Rhetoric
Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. and M.A. in English with a minimum of 12 hours in composition.
Course: ENG 102 – Composition and Research
Minimum Requirement: Minimum B.A. and M.A. in English with a minimum of 12 hours in composition.
Course: MDR 103–Medical Terminology
Minimum Requirements: CMA or RMA certification; 2-3 years of work experience.
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Medical Terminology.
Course: MDR 106–Introduction to CPT
Minimum Requirements: CCS or CPC certification; 2-3 years work experience.
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Quadra Med/ 3M computer applications.
Course: MDR 105–Introduction to ICD-9
Minimum Requirements: CCS or CPC certification; 2-3 years work experience.
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Quadra Med/ 3M computer applications.
Course: MDR 107–Intermediate ICD and CPT Coding
Minimum Requirements: CCS or CPC certification; 2-3 years work experience.
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Quadra Med/ 3M computer applications.
Course: HSA 110 – Sign Language I
Minimum Requirement: American Sign Language fluency required.
Preferred Requirement: RID/NAD certification and at least 3 years professional teaching experience.
Course: Developmental MATH courses (Arithmetic through Algebra)
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics with teaching experience.
Preferred Requirements: Master's Degree.
The Nursing Department at South Suburban College is seeking part-time adjunct faculty in Nursing for both didactic and clinical positions. Our needs for theory are in the areas of Beginning Medical-Surgical Nursing, Health Assessment, Professional Development and Pharmacology. The Nursing departments clinical needs are in Fundamentals, Medical-Surgical, and OB/PEDS. Responsibilities for the theory classes include preparing lectures, exams, handouts, and other classroom experiences for our Nursing students. Responsibilities in clinical include providing clinical educational experience that is reflective of didactic classroom learning.
Minimum Requirements: Master Degree in Nursing, a minimum of two years experience in education and/or clinical education, and a license in Illinois. An Indiana license would be a plus.
Course: MAS 106–Clinical Medical Assistant I
Minimum Requirements: CMA or RMA certification; 2-3 years of work experience
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Medical Terminology.
Course: MAS 108-Clinical Medical Assistant II
Minimum Requirements: CMA or RMA certification; 2-3 years of work experience.
Preferred Requirements: Teaching experience in a community college setting; the ability to teach Medical Terminology.
Course: PLA 203 – Legal Research and Writing I
Minimum Requirement: At time of hiring, a licensed attorney, previous experience working with paralegals, Westlaw proficiency required.
Preferred Requirement: 1 year college teaching experience.
Course: PHL 101 - Introduction To Philosophy
Minimum Requirement: B.A. in Philosophy, M.A. in Philosophy. Teaching experience in Introduction to Philosophy preferred.
Course: PHL 102 - Ethics
Minimum Requirement: B.A. in Philosophy, M.A. in Philosophy. Teaching experience in Ethics preferred.
Course: All PHYSICAL SCIENCES courses
Minimum Requirement: A Bachelor’s degree in any of the physical sciences. Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physical Science, Astronomy and/or Physics.
Preferred Requirements: Master’s degree preferred. Teaching experience in a high school or community college setting. The ability to teach Chemistry, Physical Science, Astronomy or Physics.
Course: All SPANISH courses (including Spanish For Healthcare Providers)
Minimum Requirement: B.A. in Spanish Education, M.A. in Spanish or Education. Teaching experience preferred.
