Position: Technical/Professional/Exempt, Human Resources Specialist
Department: Human Resources
Description Of Position: Under general direction from the Director of Human Resources, manages activities of the Human Resources Office in a confidential and professional manner, ensuring accordance with all applicable laws, policies and procedures. Acts as a resource for College personnel and provides direction for cost center supervisors.
Responsiblities:
- Assists in matters of a highly confidential nature, requiring discretion and judgment.
- Manages a variety of projects and tasks including, day-to-day human resource management and the maintenance of payroll/human resource systems, records, reports, and database systems.
- Processes college-wide payroll authorizations, reviews and directs correspondence, clarifies problems and otherwise obtains responses from various parties on behalf of supervisor.
- Maintains close working relationships with state, federal and local agencies in order to coordinate benefit programs, such as insurance, pension and retirement planning.
- Coordinates with the Director, staff needs analysis and periodic audit and reporting, as required.
- Creates and maintains permanent employee files and assists employees and administration in matters of human resource management.
- Manage worker’s compensation and FMLA cases.
- Ensures plans are administered in accordance with documents and procedures and takes corrective actions when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree plus three years of HR generalist/payroll experience.
- Working knowledge and understanding of employment laws and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work with all college staff, and a logical approach to problem solving.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and/or other word processing software.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Computer related skills in Datatel – Colleague.
- Familiarity with the community college environment.
Status/Salary: This is a regular full-time Technical/Professional/Exempt position for 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year. The beginning annual salary is to be determined commensurate with ability and experience.
