The NRCC Men’s Basketball Team dropped a couple of tough games this past week. The guys traveled to Bluefield last Wednesday and lost to the Rams 84-72. The Knights played well in their first loss of the young season, outscoring the bigger and more experienced Rams 31 to 29 in the 2nd half. Ryan Adams led the Knights in scoring with 17, knocking down 5 of his 9 three-point attempts. L.J. Reid scored 16 and pulled down 12 rebounds for the 2nd straight game. Rounding out the scoring for the Knights were Matt Ball with 8 and Steve Lightbody and Drew Faggert, each with 2.
Sunday, the Knights played host to the Va. Tech Hokies Club Team and after battling to a 5 point lead midway through the 2nd half, just ran out of gas, and lost 92-71. Injuries and illness left the Knights undermanned, dressing only nine players. All nine played and each got in the scoring column with L.J. Reid leading the way with 16. Reid grabbed 12 rebounds (3rd straight game), and Rob Coleman had 12 rebounds also to go with his 15 points. The rest of the scoring was Todd Wiltshire (10), Ryan Adams (9), Drew Faggert (7), Steve Lightbody (6), Brandon Osborne (3), Nate Lanier (3) and Evan Bell (2). Coach Patrick Lawson says despite the loss, his guys played their best game of the season and continue to improve and grow together in their preparation for a state championship run.
Next up for the Knights is a home game with Radford Univ. Club team this Thursday, Nov. 20 at Crosspointe Gym. The game tips off at 7:30 and admission is free. Thanks in advance to everyone for their support.
